Pre-Application Homework

To begin the process, you'll need to gather a few things so we can help you apply for the loan that's right for you. Print one of our What You Need to Apply checklists - Purchasing or Refinancing. Whether you've just started looking for a house or you've already found the one that's perfect for you, you should contact a First Horizon relationship manager so you'll receive the guidance to get a home with less stress®. You'll save time and shop with confidence if you obtain a pre-qualification, which is a conditional estimate of your maximum loan amount.

Familiarize yourself with these loan concepts and terms:

  • Appraisal:  an estimate that determines the value of your home
  • Credit:  obtain your credit report and credit score to determine your loan eligibility – lenders use your FICO credit score to determine your ability to repay the loan
  • Down Payment:  how much down payment will be required
  • Escrow Account:  money set aside for property taxes and homeowner's insurance
  • Insurance:  types of insurance needed, such as a homeowners' insurance policy
