Plaid FAQs

What is Plaid?

Plaid is a trusted third-party service that securely connects your external bank accounts so you can move money between institutions without sharing your full login details. To learn more about Plaid, click here.

Is Plaid secure?

Yes. Plaid uses advanced encryption, multifactor authentication, and security practices that meet or exceed banking industry standards. Your credentials are never shared or stored with First Horizon. To learn more about how Plaid handles data, click here.

How do I link an external account using Plaid?

  • Log in to First Horizon online banking or our mobile app
  • Go to the Transfers section and select “Connect an External Transfer Account”
  • Review and accept the terms and conditions
  • Follow the prompts that will typically involve these steps:
    • Search for and choose the external bank or financial institution
    • Enter credentials for that external bank or financial institution
    • Select the accounts you wish to link
  • Return to First Horizon digital banking to finalize and save the connection
  • Set up and reschedule any future-dated or recurring transfers

Can I still use my previously linked accounts?

If you linked external accounts before, you would need to reconnect them using Plaid to continue making transfers.

Can I link accounts at any bank?

Most major U.S banks and credit unions are supported. Plaid’s network includes more than 10,000 financial institutions that are eligible to use its service.

Can I link multiple accounts?

Yes, you can link more than one external account. However, please note that not all account types at external financial institutions are eligible for linking – only checking and savings accounts will be available to connect to First Horizon. You will be able to view and select eligible checking and savings accounts from your chosen financial institution.

Does Plaid share my financial data?

No. Plaid uses bank-level encryption and never shares login credentials with us or any third party. Clients authenticate directly with their external institution through a secure Plaid window. Clients stay in control of what they connect and approve with every step.

Will I have to wait for micro-deposits to clear before I can transfer funds?

No. Plaid allows for real-time verification, which helps reduce errors and speeds up the transfer process.
