First Horizon Bank Visa® Travel Card FAQs
Where can I purchase a First Horizon Bank Visa® Travel Card?
First Horizon Bank Travel Cards can be purchased in any of our branch locations. Cards are not currently available for purchase online.
How many cards can I purchase each day, and is there a fee?
In order to protect against potential fraudulent card activity, First Horizon Bank limits the number of cards that can be purchased each day. A maximum of 5 cards per day can be sold to an individual. A $4.00 Purchase Fee is charged for each Travel Card sold. The total purchase price of a card is the load amount plus the $4.00 Purchase Fee.
Is the First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card a credit card?
No. The First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card is a prepaid Visa Card that carries a fixed amount as determined at the time of purchase. Each time the Travel Card is used, the purchase amount is deducted from the available balance.
Do I have to activate my First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card?
Yes. You must activate and select a Personal Identification Number (PIN) prior to card usage.
Should I register my First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card?
Yes. Registering your card allows you to easily monitor your available balance and ensures you will be eligible for a card replacement in the event your card is ever lost or stolen.
Do I need a password to register my card?
Yes. The first time you register your card, you will enter the 3-digit number printed beside the signature panel on the back of your card. This is commonly referred to as the CVV number. After you sign in the first time with the CVV number as the default password, you will be prompted to choose your own password for future login.
Can I add funds to my First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card?
No. The card is not reloadable. Once the balance on your card reaches $0, the card can no longer be used.

Are there usages not allowed on the card?
Your gift card cannot be used for illegal and online gambling transactions, cash advances, purchases of money orders or traveler’s checks, or to make regular, pre-authorized payments to a third party.
If I see unauthorized transactions on my card, can I dispute them?
The available balance on the card is managed like cash. If you see unauthorized charges on your card activity, you should notify us immediately by calling 888-568-7128. If your card was registered, we can block the card and prevent future transactions from being unauthorized. If there is a balance remaining, we can transfer that balance minus a $5 Card Replacement Fee to a new card that will be mailed to you. If the card was not registered, we will be unable to replace the card.
Where can I use the card?
The card can be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted – in retail stores, over the phone and online.
Travel, entertainment and leisure
For certain types of merchants (such as restaurants, salons, hotels or car rental agencies), the authorization request could be 20% higher than the initial purchase amount to allow for tips or additional service charges that are expected to be collected by the merchant. Make sure your balance can accommodate the additional 20%, or your transaction may be declined.
If you use your card at the fuel pump, the authorization and hold amount could be as much as $75. If you do not have that amount available on your card, the transaction may be declined. It is recommended that you pay at the counter inside. This will allow the exact amount of your purchase to be deducted from your available balance.
Be sure to register your card at www.firsthorizon.com/travel before you attempt an online purchase as most online merchants will perform an address check to make sure the address on the card matches the billing address you entered. Merchants may also ask for the 3-digit code which you can find on the back of the card.
Why was my purchase declined?
The card's available balance is probably less than the purchase amount. You may inform the merchant of the remaining balance on the card, and use another form of payment to pay the difference, subject to the policy of the merchant. Also, please be aware that use of the First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card at some merchants – for example, some restaurants, and hotels &nash; requires the card have an available balance greater than the purchase amount to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses.
How can I find the balance of the card?
You can review the Card balance and recent transaction activity by registering your card and visiting the First Horizon Bank Travel Card site at www.firsthorizon.com/travel or by calling toll-free 888-568-7128.
Will my card lose value if I don't use it?
After 12 months of no usage, an Inactivity Fee of $3 will be assessed each month. This fee will be assessed until the balance on the card reaches $0.00. To stop the recurrence of this fee, simply use the card to make a purchase.
What number do I call if I have any problems with the card?
Please call toll-free 888-568-7128 if you experience problems with the card. Customer Service Representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What happens if I don't use all of the funds on the card before the expiration?

Chip-Enabled First Horizon Bank Visa® Travel Card
What is a chip card?
A chip card uses an embedded microchip which protects your information by creating a unique transaction code that changes with every transaction. This helps to prevent stolen data from being fraudulently used.
Does First Horizon Bank charge any additional fees for using the chip cards?
No, First Horizon Bank does not charge any additional fees to use the new chip technology.
Where can I use my chip-enabled First Horizon Bank Visa Travel cards?
The card can be used everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. Many merchants across the U.S. are beginning to accept chip card transactions, and this acceptance will continue to grow in the next few years. Chip technology is already used in 130 countries around the world so you will have greater acceptance when traveling internationally. If the merchant does not accept chip cards, you will still be able to use your card with the magnetic stripe.
Do I need to use a PIN with my chip-enabled First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card?
In most cases, you’ll either sign or enter your PIN for debit purchases, just like you do today.
Can I still use my chip-enabled First Horizon Bank Visa Travel Card for all the same things as my old card?
Yes, you can still make purchases as you always have – by entering the card number online, providing it by phone or swiping your card at merchant locations that do not yet have chip readers.
Is there a difference in how cardholders use the chip cards?
Yes, cardholders will insert or “dip” the chip card at a chip-enabled terminal. The card will stay in the terminal during the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, the cardholder will remove the card from the terminal and store it safely.
What if my chip card doesn’t work when I insert it into the chip terminal?
Some merchants may have chip terminals, but they may not be activated to accept chip cards. If you are unable to insert your chip card into a chip terminal, you can always swipe your card to complete the transaction.
