Who wins?

S&P 500 index based on which political party won the White House

With the election right around the corner, we thought that we take a look at past market performance of the S&P 500 index based on which political party won the White House. According to Plancorp, since 1929 the average annual return under a Democratic President was 10.83%, while the average annual return under a Republican President came in at 1.7%.

Here are some ideas you can put into action to beef up your retirement savings and improve the chances that you're financially empowered to retire when, how, and where you want.

The S&P 500 index measures the performance of large- cap equities of 500 leading companies in leading industries in the U.S. You cannot invest directly in an index.

While it’s interesting to put this into perspective and see how the market has performed since 1945 based on which party is in control of the White House there are various other factors like the health of the economy, company valuations, corporate profits and margins that have a more meaningful impact on equity returns.
